Springing Back into Action
Greetings my dear readers! After a long hibernation, I’m coming into Spring with some BIG updates for you.
I know weekends can fill up quickly (as if they’re not full enough already, right?). That said, kindly note the following Spring Events I’ve got lined up.
Saturday, 4/22/23: I’ve been invited back to the Free Library of Monroe Township (713 Marsha Ave.) for their first annual Meet the Author Book Festival.
This outdoor, family-friendly event runs from 10 am to 4 pm, and will include creatives from all genres. There will also be food trucks.
I’ll be speaking about my research, doing a live reading —possibly Chapter 1 of Book 2— and, of course, signing. Paperback copies of Thicker Than Water will also be available for purchase (cash & electronic payments accepted).
Thursday, 5/4/23: (*deep breath*) It is with heartfelt honor that I’ve been selected by the Friends and Volunteers of the Ocean City Free Public Library as the 2023 Author Speaker at their annual High Tea.
This is a ticketed event held at the historic Flanders Hotel in Ocean City, NJ (719 East 11th Street).
Tickets will be sold in-person only at the Library Atrium on:
Friday, 3/31/23, from 6 pm to 8 pm and
Saturday, 4/1/23, from 10 am to 12 noon
*there is no limit to the # of tickets one person may purchase*
Event features both Open Seating and Reserved Seating (for parties of 10 or more).
In addition to a full course high tea, copies of Thicker Than Water will be available for purchase and signing both before and after the event, courtesy of Sun Rose Books and Music.
Saturday, 5/6/23: I’ll be at the Barnegat Library (112 Burr Street) for an Author Talk from 2 to 3 pm. This event will include a research discussion/ Q&A, live reading, and signing. I’ll also have copies of TTW for those interested in purchase.
Hope to see you!! And feel free to spread the word — all library links are sharable as is this post.
As always, thank you to everyone for your patience and continued enthusiasm for #ACapeMayTrilogy. Truth be told, getting this sequel to press is taking a bit longer than anticipated. While I was aiming for Summer 2023, it’s now looking like an Autumn/4th Quarter launch.
However, I’m thrilled to announce Book II’s Title Reveal is coming this Saturday, April 1st!! Make sure you’re following my socials (IG- @lauraquinnwriter FB- @lauraquinnwrites) for the mini-trailer. Shares are greatly appreciated to help spread the word.
A full blurb will be included when I do my Cover Reveal (likely in late June/early July). Right now, I can tell you this much:
The overall tone of this book is darker than that of Thicker Than Water. Not so much from a spicy/steamy romance standpoint (those scenes remain mostly fade-to-black), but a psychological one.
Even with a slight time jump (3 years), my characters are struggling with a lot of baggage from events occurring in TTW. While Book 1 captured the magic of falling in love, Book 2 examines the art of staying in love, especially in times of strife, of which (#sorrynotsorry) there will be many.
The narrative itself is grief and trauma-informed, inspired by themes found in such classics as The White Devil, by Shakespearean contemporary John Webster, and the Celtic legend of Tristan and Isolde (sometimes spelled Iseult).
I hope you like it.
